About the Long Term Ventilation ODN

The aim of the North West Long Term Ventilation (LTV) Operational Delivery Network (ODN) is to ensure that all children within the region will receive high quality, equitable care, and reach their full potential whichever part of the region they live.

The ODN aims to ensure that all care providers of children requiring LTV act as one system ensuring that the child and their family are provided with health care services as close to home as safely as possible.

The ODN works across all services who support children on LTV including:

  • Paediatric community services
  • Tertiary Children’s Hospitals (Alder Hey and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital)
  • Regional Hospitals Trust who have paediatric inpatients and provide emergency services
  • Charity and third sector organisations including children’s hospices and care agencies

The care pathway for each child / young person is specific to their health and social care needs, making management of patient flow across the network (which extends across multiple integrated care boards) an essential component of the LTV ODN model of care.  The ODN helps to manage this flow and capacity, ensuring services are able to meet the needs of patients, and staff are competent to manage patients at the appropriate level of care to meet their needs.

The ODN supports services across the region to implement the recommendations and objectives (as they relate to long term ventilation) within the Paediatric Critical Care Society Guidelines (add link) and the Midlands Children’s LTV Network Quality Standards.

The ODN works alongside the key partner networks which includes adult critical care and neonates to agree policies and pathways for the transition of babies and young people across the Networks.

LTV Education

Our Education team provides a wide range of training to support those caring for  Long Term Ventilation patients within local hospitals.

For more information on how the education team can support you in your local hospital  and to view up coming study days click the picture above to take you to our education hub. Alternatively email the team at: odneducation@mft.nhs.uk

LTV Self Assessment

The LTV ODN will shortly be conducting LTV self assessments across the region with all paediatric LTV health care providers, starting with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The purpose of the reviews are for the ODN to act as a ‘critical friend’ to review the completed self-assessment, evidence and support action planning to enable providers to meet national standards.

LTV Guidelines

The ODN work in collaboration with the North West & North Wales Paediatric Transport Service (NWTS) to produce regional clinical  guidelines to support care of paediatric long term ventilation patients across the region.
